Determining the Sex
Before the skinning begins, one must determine the sex of the pig. The way of doing so is looking at the umbilical cord or the anus. When looking at the umbilical cord, if there is a hole posterior (behind) to it, the fetal pig is a male. If there is no hole there, it is a female.
Determining the Sex
Another way of telling the sex is looking at the anus. If there is one hole, it is a male. If there are two holes, it is a female.
Cutting Into the Skin
Before dissection begins, an incision must me made. Using a pair of scissors, cut into the skin making a small hole.
Using the Blunt Probe
After the small hole is made, use a blunt probe to get under the skin; cutting through the connective tissue separating the skin from the muscle.
Cutting & Skinning
Continue using the scissors and blunt probe down from the neck to the anus.
Skinning Towards the Back
Make an incision towards the back and skin from there.
Skinning the Forelimb
Make an incision at the base of the forelimb and skin towards the lower forelimb.
Continue around the forelimb and the abdominal area.
Use the blunt probe to get under the skin to pull it back from the muscle.
Skinning the Lower Limb
Use the scissors to make incisions towards the lower hind limb. After that is done, use the blunt probe to separate the skin from the muscle.
Make incisions with the scissors around the lower hind limb.
After the incision is made, the whole side of the pig is successfully skinned.
