Liver: Left & Right Lobe
The liver is very easy to identify. It is located in the superior right portion of the abdominal cavity, inferior to the diaphragm. It is the largest organ in the abdominal cavity.
Liver: Caudate Lobe
To find the caudate lobe, lift the liver and below it you will see a lobe in the lower right portion of the liver. This lobe is the caudate lobe.
Left Hepatic Duct
The left hepatic duct is on the inferior side of the liver. To locate it look underneath the liver on the left (Pig's left) side. There will be a small tough string looking tissue there and that is the left hepatic duct. (Picture not from our pig)
Right Hepatic Duct
The right hepatic duct is on the inferior side of the liver. To locate it look underneath the liver on the right (Pig's right) side. There will be a small tough string looking tissue there and that is the right hepatic duct.
Common Hepatic Duct
After locating the right and left hepatic ducts follow the two ducts to the point where they meet and become one duct. At this point the two ducts combine to become the common hepatic duct.
Cystic Duct
The thin string like tissue coming from the gallbladder, and later joining with the common hepatic duct (found earlier) to form the common bile duct.
Common Bile Duct
To find the common bile duct follow the cystic duct and the common hepatic duct to a point where the two meet. After the point where the two ducts become one they are now the common bile duct.
